Diane von Furstenberg Runway Spring 2008

Diane von Furstenberg Spring 2008

Diane von Furstenberg packed her trunks and went on a trip to the tropics for her Spring 2008 collection. So where are the wrap dresses? A few of the iconic styles made it into the collection, but for the most part, the clothes were easy, vacation-ready looks paired with slicked back hair and a flower over the ear. Wild ethinic prints covered one-shoulder dresses and rainbow-colored ombre prints made her t-shirt dresses delectably sweet. Her long, flowing halter dresses are made for shopping in a beachside village or fashionably dropping out of society in Tahiti.

Malandrino Runway Spring 2008

Malandrino Spring 2008

Everyone knows I’m a complete Francophile, so my girl-crush on Catherine Malandrino should come as no surprise. She has that indescribable chicness that all French women seem to be born with and it bleeds through in every thread of her clothes. I am insanely jealous, yet I want to be her best friend and wear everything in her closet.

For Spring 2008, Malandrino brought out pretty dress after pretty dress in a citrus hued color palette. Floor skimming maxi dresses were set off with scalloped tiers and quirky bauble detailing at the neck. Malandrino continued the “return of the waist” trend with nipped waist cocktail dresses and belted pencil skirts.

Proenza Schouler Runway Spring 2008

Proenza Schouler Spring 2008

Proenza Schouler for Spring 2008 has turned a corner. Fashion critics have taken to declaring this collection “all grown up”, but I think the boys have been grown and ready for quite some time. However, a little cash doesn’t hurt and the influence of that Valentino money has certainly introduced a new luxe feel to the design house.

For Spring 2008, Jack and Lazaro brought British bobby style to the runway with looks topped off with military hats, serious plumage, and clothes that were far from simple. The gold embellished dresses were my faves and I love the belted jackets and coats. Like every other fashionista, I can’t help but overjoyed to the point of swooning at everything in this collection. Final verdict: ProScho, I love you!

Ralph Lauren Runway Spring 2008

Ralph Lauren Spring 2008

Guess what I spied on the Ralph Lauren runway. Pink jodhpurs, crimson jodhpurs, white jodhpurs. If there’s one place where jodhpurs seem completely appropriate, Ralph Lauren is it.

The designer celebrated 40 years of clothing fashionistas in his classic style with a collection that showed away from the tents in Central Park and combined everything we know Ralph for – riding jackets, top hats, and nods to both equestrian chic and Anglo dandyism.

Models took to the runway in black and white dresses and Derby-ready hats that looked as if they were pulled from the set of My Fair Lady. His first look was a white gown with black ruffle trim and a sweeping hat fit for Eliza Doolittle’s debut at the Ascot races. He continued the show with floral garden party dresses, cropped riding jackets paired with slim pants or flouncy skirts, and more clothes fit for a day at the races.

This over the top collection already has the fashion glitterati clamoring for 40 more years of Ralph!
