Carrie Bradshaw Gets Married…

Sex and the City wedding dress

So of course we have to have a great wedding dress! The first shots of Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding dress from Sex and the City: The Movie have been released. Not taking into account that blue thing nested in her hair, I think this is surprisingly simple for her character. The neckline of the dress is beautiful — the jeweled area on the left side of the dress isn’t overdone and makes it a little special. Shots of the rest of the wedding party after the jump. Christian Dior Spring 2008

Do you adore Dior? If you do, Spring 2008 will see you in ‘30’s mobster suits, barely there lingerie, and…shoulder pads? Yes, several of Galliano’s feminine suits featured shoulder pads that sloped off at an almost ninety degree angle.

Some of the looks were a bit mature for my tastes, which may be Galliano playing to Dior’s grande dame base. The pink shell paired with an ankle-length silk skirt is a perfectly sophisticated evening look, but certainly not meant for the Galliano Girls in the audience. Even some of the lingerie seemed as if it came out of the closet of a cougar. I loved the leopard tap pants, who’s styling with bowler hats tipped over khol rimmed eyes gave it a Moulin Rouge feel, but I can pass on a black floor-skimming nightie that left too little to the imagination. There’s also a red Dior gown that I’m sure will show up on a red carpet somewhere. Most of all, I’m a fan of tailored looks and Galliano’s pinstripe suiting was spot-on.

The sexy Italian houses all went subtle for Spring 2008. Like Cavalli and Versace, Dolce and Gabbana was another design team who embraced a sweeter side. The boys sent out organza dresses plus swingy brocatelle minis and knee length shift dresses. Feminine pieces were toughened up with the addition of a shoe boot and menswear trousers softened by gauzy blouses.

Domenico and Stefano then took an artistic turn with paint splashed spin-offs of their organza dresses. The pièce de résistance of this D&G collection was a series of gowns with splashes of color and big skirts created from yards of tulle. These gowns are very avant garde, but they’ll require an equally bold personality to pull off.

Versace Spring 2008

Restraint has been the name of the game at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2008. First Cavalli reigned in his typical wild woman to present a collection with nary a hint of leopard print. Now from the house whose founder once said, “You dress elegant women. You dress sophisticated women. I dress sluts,” comes an understated collection whose sexiness runs just under the surface. Versace is still partial to touchable silks and dresses meant to seduce, but Donatella also added flowing jumpsuits, dressed-up shorts, and fluid trousers.

Juicy color may have grabbed the most attention at Versace, but my personal faves were the neutral colored looks. The one-note shades of putty leather shorts and sable silk blouse were set off with a pop of aquamarine stiletto at the foot. Divine. A similar putty colored silk dress fell just above the knee and oozed a sophisticated sexiness. Beige shorts were paired with a fabulous chesnut leather jacket sporting roomy, cargo pockets.
