Emmy Rossum in 3.1 Phillip Lim

Emmy Rossum in Phillip Lim

A lot of editors would tell you to splurge on key pieces (a timeless bag, high-quality shoes) so that you can mix high-low and save on the rest of your wardrobe; but today, I’m going to flip that concept on its ear.

Splurge on the dress, save on the accessories.

Emmy Rossum wore this 3.1 Phillip Lim dress ($525) to the designer’s store opening in Los Angeles. There’s really no substitution for a perfect Phillip Lim dresses, so spend that stimulus check on it now or watch and wait until it goes on sale.

You can easily re-create this look with a few basic black accessories that don’t break the bank.

If you don’t already have a pair of black, peep-toes in your shoe collection (and really, you should), nab this pair of Jessica Simpson Donora pumps ($89) with the sassy bow on the toe.

The wide belt is what really pulls this look together. A Rough Roses braided belt
($68) with a wide double buckle will give you a lovely cinched waist and tie in your all-black accessories.

Pile on three black beaded bracelets like the gold-accented Orka Mesica friendship bracelets ($130) or try these black bead bracelets with turquoise accents from Forever 21 for $3.80.

Naomi Campbell Pleads Guilty

Naomi Campbell pleads guilty

The supermodel Naomi Campbell escaped jail today when she was sentenced to 200 hours of community service for kicking and spitting at police officers during a foul-mouthed tirade aboard an aircraft waiting to take off from Heathrow.

A court heard that the 38-year-old screamed abuse at the captain of a British Airways flight after being told one of her bags had gone missing during the luggage chaos at the newly-opened Terminal 5 in April.

Campbell ordered the captain to get off the plane and look for her suitcase, holding up the flight bound for Los Angeles for almost an hour. When cabin crew eventually called police to remove her she refused to get off the plane and accused them of targeting her because she was black.

Campbell, who had pleaded guilty to assault, disorderly conduct and threatening behaviour, was also ordered to pay fines totalling £2300 and £550 in compensation to two police officers and the aircraft captain, Miles Sutherland. She had faced a jail term of up to six months for each count of assault.

Viktor & Rolf: Designer Bloggers

Viktor and Rolf exhibit at the Barbican Art Gallery

Everyone and their dog has a blog nowadays and now you can add Viktor and Rolf to the list…sort of. The designers are blogging at The Moment (NYTimes.com) about their preparations for a fashion retrospective exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery in London.

The focal point of the display? Fifty-five miniature dolls wearing exact replicas of their most memorable designs — and one doll that looks exactly like actress and sometimes muse Tilda Swinton.

A little bit creepy, but mostly cool.

Viktor and Rolf will be blogging at The Moment until their show opens, so check out their updates. The exhibit opens at the Barbican Art Gallery in London on June 18 and runs through September 21.
