V Magazine Plus-Size Model Shoot is Full-Sized Fierce

V Magazine Size Issue

Images from the upcoming V Magazine “Size Issue” have been steadily leaking out and I’m almost afraid to look at them anymore lest I ruin it for the January 14 street date.

The “One Size Fits All” shoot featuring Crystal Renn and Jacquelyn Jablonski (see it here) was hot, but I was all agog when I saw these photos highlighting a few lesser-known plus-size models.

Candice Huffine, Tara Lynn, Michelle Olson, Kasia Pilewicz, and Marquita Pring were photographed by Solve Sundsbo in a shoot featuring Guess jeans, Gucci swimwear, and bare skin.

I love that this shoot puts the models in very body-con fashions and they aren’t trying to hide the body parts that make them plus-size models, but are actually putting those thighs, hips, and bellies on full display. So sexy!

I knew I was going to love these photos the minute I saw leopard print.

Models: Candice Huffine, Tara Lynn, Michelle Olson, Kasia Pilewicz, and Marquita Pring

Amber Rose for Vibe Magazine

Amber Rose Vibe Magazine January 2010

How did I miss this?

While Kanye West got his Cindy Crawford on for A Bathing Ape, his girlfriend, Amber Rose, snuck in a layout for the January 2010 issue of Vibe magazine.

The photo shoot, titled A Splash of Masculinity shows Amber Rose rocking what I can only describe as a tiny blonde ‘wiglet’ and giving the masculine clothes a feminine edge. I think her face looks absolutely gorgeous in the photo above. Her skin glows and I always love a ruby red lip.

You know, I didn’t pay that much attention to them before, but I’m starting to really like Kanye West and Amber Rose together. Individually, they can be a little bit too much, but together, it all makes sense.

Rihanna in GQ Magazine January 2010

Okay, okay. I know Rihanna’s new photo shoot for GQ magazine has precious little to do with fashion. But she is one of the most stylish women in the entertainment biz and I’m always curious to see what she’s wearing (or not wearing).

She sat down for an in-depth interview with GQ magazine and answered candid questions about That Night and why she’s choosing to reveal the details of the incident now.

From GQ Magazine:

On revealing the details of her incident with Chris Brown:

Very liberating. It’s relieving. Because it was built up for so long, and all these thoughts and emotions have been running through my mind for the past eight months. And now it’s like I finally get to let go and move on.

On her sexy GQ photo shoot:

[giggles] It’s very sexy, yeah. At one point [chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group] L.A. Reid came into the shoot, and he was like, “Rihanna, put some fucking clothes on!”

On the misperceptions of the public:

They just don’t understand me. I just think people straight up don’t know who I am; they just know what I look like, they know the idea of me. But—they’ll learn more this time, because now I let my guard down, and I’m more comfortable just being myself. That’s exactly what I want to be. And even on the album, you definitely get a gist of my personality.

Amber Rose for Complex Magazine

Complex: Did you always have an eclectic style growing up?

Amber Rose: Yea, I always looked up to Slash from Guns N’ Roses. I had every single poster of Slash in my room. It was crazy because I grew up in an all-black neighborhood and everybody I went to school with was black. I was the only biracial looking girl in my school, and Slash was biracial too, he was just a fucking rock star. I always wanted to play the guitar. I’ve tried, but other things came up.

Complex: What’s the status of your career?

Amber Rose: Definitely more modeling, I want to change the face of modeling. I want young girls growing up to know that they can actually eat something, and be beautiful and be a model, that they can actually have a real women’s body and do modeling. I want to get into acting. I want to pursue all avenues that I can.

Vogue Italia Goes Dark

Vogue Italia Goes Dark

Black models

Fashionista is floating an almost-probably-true rumor that Steven Meisel just shot an issue of Italian Vogue using all black models. So…Vogue Italia will look like any other month at ESSENCE?

So who’s in the issue? Here are my obvious, crazy-if-they-didn’t guesses: Chanel Iman, Jordan Dunn, Liya Kebede. And my hopeful, fingers-crossed wishes: Wakeema Hollis, Kinée Diouf, Georgie Baddiel, and Ajuma Nasenyana.

I don’t care who’s on the cover, I’m just glad all of these girls are getting some work and thrilled that someone recognizes the need for more diverse models in the pages of major fashion magazines.
