Issa Spring 2010 @ London Fashion Week

One of the great things about London Fashion Week is seeing the innovation that comes out of a city of designers free to create outside the fashion influences of a New York, Paris or Milan. What you get is quirky fashion and a community that creates interesting collaborations like the symbiotic fashion friendship between Agyness Deyn and Henry Holland.
Some of the more daring designers who showed at London Fashion Week were Gareth Pugh whose Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome looks made models look like futuristic warrior women or Nathan Jenden’s stark masquerade ball runway show, from which my favorite item was a metal covered corset dress that must have weighed a ton.
Of course, Henry Holland remained his playful and cheeky self and closed his House of Holland show with his friend/muse Agyness Deyn in a tartan wedding dress topped with ceiling scraping antlers.
London: Fashion on the Fringe
Liya Kebede at Christopher Kane Fall 2008
I think it’s kind of amusing when a designer goes overboard with one specific embellishment. Christopher Kane must have hit a tremendous sale on paillettes because the circular discs were everywhere. Kind of like how chubby Chris went a little nuts with the human hair on Project Runway last week.

Duro Olowu Fall/Winter 2008 collection
Nigerian fashion designer Duro Olowu can always be counted on to deliver vivacious color even when the rest of the fashion world is in the somber throes of winter. His Fall 2008 collection continued his play with pattern and prints, creating colorful combos that will lively up your look.
Styling the collection with fingerless gloves and door-knocker earrings gave his sophisticated looks an unexpected city-punk asthetic.
