Sex Invades the City

Sarah Jessica Parker SATC movie premiere

Finally! The cast of Sex and the City: The Movie unveiled their celluloid baby to a New York City audience at Radio City Music Hall last night. The much-ballyhooed movie premiere brought out writers (Candace Bushnell, Michael Patrick King), rappers (Lil’ Kim), and even real-life Vogue editrix Anna Wintour.

But of course, post-premiere and party, there was only question on everyone’s mind: So what were they wearing?

The girls gave the already star-studded night some sparkle in a series of metallic gowns.

Sarah Jessica Parker was stunning in a strapless, silver Nina Ricci gown from the spring runway. Kristen Davis — very Charlotte-esque with a demure neckline and below the knee hemline in a glittering, gold DKNY cocktail dress. Kim Cattrall chose silver Vivienne Westwood embellished down the bodice with lace and beading.

Even castmate Jennifer Hudson got in on the glitz gravy train with a gold Peter Soronen frock that did nothing to minimize her ‘Sex’-worthy curves.

While the rest of the girls went for glitzy metallics, Cynthia Nixon stood out form the crowd in an understated white Narciso Rodriguez gown topped off with enough Fred Leighton jewels to finance a small country.

Sex and the City Movie Premiere Goes to London

The cast of Sex and the City:The Movie were red carpet ready at the world premiere of the film in London (umm….I thought New York City was the movie’s fifth character).

Kristin Davis was in vintage Guy Laroche, Cynthia Nixon in plunging Calvin Klein, Kim Catrall in brilliant red Vivienne Westwood. Sarah Jessica Parker created a Carrie-esque fashion moment when she channeled Isabella Blow in an Alexander McQueen dress and Philip Treacy hat.

Model Daisy Lowe and singer Kelly Rowland were also on hand for the premiere. The movie (finally) opens in the US on May 30.

The Ugly: Costume Institute Gala 2008

Scarlett Johansson looks like they snatched her out of her house while she was in the middle of singing into her hairbrush and recreating the Material Girl video.

That’s it. I’m officially over the Costume Institute Ball.

The Bad: Costume Institute Gala 2008

A handful of bad fashion choices at the Met Costume Institute Gala.

Joy Bryant can’t possibly move or breathe in that Pucci gown and La Lopez should have left those shingles on the house.

The Good: Costume Institute Gala 2008

Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer arrive at the Costume Institute Gala 2008
Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer arrive at the Costume Institute Gala 2008

Last night, the fashion and celeb crowd came out for the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala themed Superheroes: Fashion And Fantasy. I was really looking for someone to go for it and do something really fashion-forward with a dress that fit the theme, but most people played it safe and thus it was kind of BLAH.

There was truly precious little to choose from in the good category and even most of that was just sort of boring and inoffensive.

I put Anna Wintour in the “good” category for a few reasons. Because even though I’m not in love with her dress, I see what she’s trying to do here. Because she’s smiling (with teeth!). Because I’m afraid of her.

Beyonce poses like she should be in a Mattel box. We get it Gisele — you have an amazing body. I love you Zac! Zoe Kravitz looks young and dewy. Andre Benjamin will be bringing your car around at the end of the night.

Enjoy the good! Bad and ugly on the way!
