Emmy Rossum in 3.1 Phillip Lim

Emmy Rossum in Phillip Lim

A lot of editors would tell you to splurge on key pieces (a timeless bag, high-quality shoes) so that you can mix high-low and save on the rest of your wardrobe; but today, I’m going to flip that concept on its ear.

Splurge on the dress, save on the accessories.

Emmy Rossum wore this 3.1 Phillip Lim dress ($525) to the designer’s store opening in Los Angeles. There’s really no substitution for a perfect Phillip Lim dresses, so spend that stimulus check on it now or watch and wait until it goes on sale.

You can easily re-create this look with a few basic black accessories that don’t break the bank.

If you don’t already have a pair of black, peep-toes in your shoe collection (and really, you should), nab this pair of Jessica Simpson Donora pumps ($89) with the sassy bow on the toe.

The wide belt is what really pulls this look together. A Rough Roses braided belt
($68) with a wide double buckle will give you a lovely cinched waist and tie in your all-black accessories.

Pile on three black beaded bracelets like the gold-accented Orka Mesica friendship bracelets ($130) or try these black bead bracelets with turquoise accents from Forever 21 for $3.80.

La Bohème: Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams put away the knee-length cocktail numbers for a Fuse party in NYC and showed her bohemian side in a fluttery, one-shoulder dress. Williams played peek-a-boo with sleek, sideswept hair and warm, caramel highlights. She topped off the look with touches of silver in her simple accessories — hoops plus a matching bangle and cocktail ring.

This former member of Destiny’s Child looks fab all by herself!

Leggy Gwynnie

Gwyneth Paltrow in London

I know I gave Vogue (and by association, Gwyneth) a bit of shit for her most recent Vogue cover, but you can’t look at these photos and tell me she doesn’t look amazing and impossibly chic.

Gwyneth paired the feminine with the masculine in a thigh-skimming Balmain minidress and black tuxedo jacket at the London premiere of Iron Man.

Leggy and absolutely fabulous!

And since I can’t resist a dapper man, here’s Terrence Howard who was perfectly turned out in a three-piece suit for the premiere. I love the detail in his tie and pocket square. So very natty!

Kiss or Diss: Kate Hudson in Galliano

Kate Hudson wore a teal Galliano gown from the Fall/Winter 2008 collection to the UK premier of Fool’s Gold.

I loved this gown on the runway and I think the color is gorgeous. On the other hand, I’m not sure if the look works for kate Hudson and I’m seriously bothered that she looks like an amputee.

So what say you: kiss it or diss it?

Flowing maxi-dresses have been a staple in Nicole Richie’s pre and post-baby wardrobe. And why not? The strapless style and flowy fabric work with her new mommy curves.

Nicole chose floor-length Missoni for the ASCAP Pop Awards and paired the bold dress with gold bangles and a little metallic clutch. A simple, middle part to her tousled blonde ‘do pulled together her hippie chic look.
